The Climbing Trees

Can you see the climbers starting at the bottom?

Just don't look down okay!

There is nothing more awe inspiring than standing next to an ancient karri tree and gazing up into its distant crown. Nothing perhaps, except peering down from the top of such a giant. In Pemberton you can do both. A series of fire lookouts were constructed in the tops of karri trees, mainly during the 1930's and 1940's. These lookouts in the treetops were an ingenious way of spotting fires in such tall forests.

The Dave Evans Bicentennial Tree in the Warren National Park offers views to the coastal sand dunes and is a favourite venue for barbeques, with great facilities.

The Diamond Tree, just south of Manjimup is another fire lookout tree in the Pemberton area.

Believe it or not - it's harder coming down than going up

Today you can climb these lookout trees and take in the spectacular views.

The Gloucester Tree, in the Gloucester National Park, is only 3kms from the centre of town.
